Finding Peace while waiting

We have all been in that quiet, uncomfortable space where faith meets the friction of waiting.

You pray, you wait, and you trust. Then comes that moment of breakthrough—a clear confirmation, a long-awaited "yes," an answer to prayer that makes your heart leap. But then, time starts to tick. Days turn into a week, and the official paperwork or email still hasn't arrived in your inbox.

In that silence between the promise and the delivery, doubt quietly creeps in.

Did I mishear?

Is it going to fall through at the last minute?

Why is this taking so long?

If you are fighting off anxiety today while waiting on a legal document, a formal job offer, or a final sign-off, know this: you are not failing in your faith simply because you feel the tension. Feeling anxious while actively fighting doubt is part of the human journey. The key is where you anchor your heart while you wait.

The Tension of the "In-Between"

It is easy to have faith while praying for a open door. It is equally easy to rejoice once everything is signed and sealed. But the hardest phase of Christian walk is often the in-between—after the verbal promise is made, but before the tangible evidence arrives.

When delay stretches out, human nature tempts us to regain control through worry. We refresh our inbox. We replay conversations. We construct worst-case scenarios.

Yet, throughout Scripture, God often operates in these waiting rooms. Abraham was promised a nation and waited decades. Joseph received a vision of his future but spent years in prison before it came to pass. God rarely moves at the speed of our expectations, but He is never a second late.

God’s Whispers in the Waiting

When anxiety starts to build, notice how God reaches out. He doesn't abandon us to our thoughts; He speaks through His Word.

Over the past week, every time doubt has threatened to pull you under, God has quietly reminded you of His presence. And today, when the tension felt heavy again, He gave a very specific command:

"Be still, and know that I am God."

— Psalm 46:10

Notice what this scripture does—and doesn't—say.

It does not say, "Figure it out," or "Worry until the email arrives."

It says, "Be still." In the original Hebrew, the phrase for "be still" (raphah) means to let go, cease striving, or relax your grip. God is gently telling you: Put down the burden of trying to control the outcome. Let Me be God.

3 Ways to Anchor Your Heart Today

If you are struggling to keep doubt at bay while waiting for your formal confirmation, here are three spiritual truths to hold onto:

1. A Delay in Paperwork Is Not a Denial from God

Human processes are slow, subject to administrative delays, approvals, and bureaucracy. But human delays cannot derail divine appointments. If God has opened this door for you, no delayed email or slow legal process can shut it.

2. Let God’s Track Record Silence Your Doubts

Doubt feed on the unknown future. Counter it by looking at God’s past faithfulness. Remind yourself of the times God came through when things looked uncertain. The same God who brought you the initial confirmation is the God who will see it through to completion.

3. Shift from Striving to Resting

When you catch yourself checking your inbox with a heavy heart, turn that moment into a breath of prayer. Instead of asking "When?", try praying:

"Lord, I surrender my timeline to Yours. I choose to be still and trust that You are in control."

Final Thought: Trusting the Author of the Story

Waiting is rarely comfortable, but it is always productive in the hands of God. It stretches our faith muscle, refines our trust, and teaches us that our ultimate security isn't in a signed document or an inbox notification—it is in the unchanging character of God.

Hold fast today. Do not let anxiety rob you of the peace God has promised. Breathe, step away from the refresh button, and remember: He is God, and He is working even in the waiting.
